The Health minister's brother has been elected Lord Mayor of Cork tonight.

The Health minister's brother has been elected Lord Mayor of Cork tonight.

Fianna Fáil's Sean Martin has followed in the footsteps of Micheál Martin who held the position in the early 1990's.

Dublin City Council has elected Labour's Michael Connaughton as Lord Mayor by 27 votes to ten, replacing Fianna Fáil's Royston Brady.

Labour also took the mayoral chain in Galway, where Catherine Connolly becomes the party's first mayor there since Michael D. Higgins held the office in 1990.
