Kerwick doubtful for Tipp

Tipperary manager Liam Sheedy has revealed tonight that Pat Kerwick is a major injury doubt ahead of the Premier County's Munster SHC opener against Cork at Pairc Ui Chaoimh on Sunday week.

"We have the two long-term injuries with Paul Kelly and James Woodlock, so obviously they are not ready. I'd say at this stage Pat Kerwick would be extremely doubtful and Benny Dunne won't play," Sheedy said.

Dunne is out having a broken a bone in his hand, while Kerwick has a leg injury.

"It's slow to heal," Sheedy said of Kerwick's injury. "It's niggly and he definitely won't train on it this weekend. Whether he makes it or not, at this stage I would think that he would be lucky to make it."

Elsewhere, Sheedy concedes that there are some other players with injuries, but that these are minor and should clear up before the May 30 encounter.

"We have a few other niggles, but hopefully with 10 days to go, the rest of the injuries will clear up and the rest of the panel should make it."

Injuries aside, Sheedy is happy that his squad possesses the strength in depth required for a long Championship summer.

"You have to be fair as well, some of these guys are only heading into their second Championship campaign," he said.

"There was a big turnover last year. We probably brought 10 on board in 2009. You have got to be fair to these players as well.

"They have to get their time to develop. As I constantly say, the day will come for these players. Whether it is 2010 or not, I don't know.

"What I do know is, that these guys are training their hearts out and giving everything to the cause for every night they go in training. Hopefully that will deliver success in the future."
