Forensics team examine sea-plunge car

A forensic examination of the car involved in what gardaí say was a tragic accident in west Cork on Friday night is continuing this afternoon.

A forensic examination of the car involved in what gardaí say was a tragic accident in west Cork on Friday night is continuing this afternoon.

The accident happened at around 2am on Friday morning when the young men's car became stuck in an embankment.

They called friends to help them - however, the car later slipped and went into the sea.

Two other men who had joined them managed to escape from the submerged vehicle and made their way to Castletownbere to raise the alarm.

Rescuers later recovered the bodies of 21-year-old Colm Harrington from Bere Island, 20-year-old Shane Kelly from Allihes, and 17-year-old Fintan O'Driscoll from Castletownbere.

Gardaí are continuing their forensic examination of the car this afternoon.

The funerals of the three young men will take place on Monday and Tuesday.
