Gardaí release two in connection with Athlone death

Two people being questioned by gardaí in connection with the death of Lillian Scanlon have been released without charge.

Two people being questioned by gardaí in connection with the death of Lillian Scanlon have been released without charge.

The man and woman, aged 51 and 52, were arrested separately in Athlone on Friday morning and were questioned by gardaí in Longford and Athlone.

They were released this afternoon and gardaí say a file is being prepared for the Director of Public Prosecutions.

The 48-year-old was found dead in a rented house at Valleycourt in Athlone just over a week ago.

Gardaí say she suffered a number of injuries but a post mortem was unable to determine the exact cause of her death.
