A man was stabbed early today while chasing an intruder after an arson attack on his home.

A man was stabbed early today while chasing an intruder after an arson attack on his home.

The man and his partner were in their house in Kerry Drive, Killyleagh, Co Down, in the early hours when they discovered a fire at the front door, police said.

The householder went outside and extinguished the fire and then noticed a man hiding in his garden hedge.

He challenged the man and gave chase when he ran off. He followed the man into an alleyway where he was stabbed in the stomach.

A police spokesman said the injury was not believed to be serious.
