Residents in a Derry neighbourhood were today counting the cost of damage to their cars and property by a mob who went on an early morning rampage along their street.

Police in Strand Road were investigating the disturbance which saw 14 cars damaged and the front door of a house in Beechwood Avenue kicked in.

It is believed a crowd of between 30 and 40 people went along the street vandalising vehicles at around 1.30am.

Although no-one was injured, the crowd broke the lock of the door of the house they kicked in.

Detectives have appealed for information from anyone who witnessed the incident or can help their investigation in any way.
