The organisation representing rank and file members of the Defence Forces has said army doctors should not be deployed in the country's prisons.

The organisation representing rank and file members of the Defence Forces has said army doctors should not be deployed in the country's prisons.

Army doctors are set to be drafted in due to a dispute between prison doctors and the Irish prison service.

PDFORRA has said the army is short of doctors, with only 20 of around 50 positions filled.

These 20 must provide medical services for the Defence Forces at home and overseas.

PDFORRA general secretary Gerry Rooney said the Defence Forces need all their medical personnel.
