Potential coalition partners to split on abortion?
A major policy rift could be about to open up between Fine Gael and the Labour Party over the issue of abortion.
According to the Irish Catholic newspaper, Fine Gael leader Enda Kenny has vowed that he will not legislate to allow abortion in Ireland.
The paper says Mr Kenny has given a commitment to pro-life supporters that his party will not introduce legislation based on the Supreme Court's decision in the X case 15 years ago.
However, the Labour Party has reaffirmed that it is committed to legalising abortion and has expressed this stance in every manifesto over the past 15 years.
