Two men have been arrested after the Army Bomb Disposal Team made safe a device discovered in Co. Louth.

Two men have been arrested after the Army Bomb Disposal Team made safe a device discovered in Co. Louth.

The improvised mortar was found on a farm near Hackballscross at around 4.30pm yesterday evening.

They made safe the components for the improvised mortar system, which included explosive material, and the remains were handed over to the Gardaí for investigation.

A substantial quantity of fertilizer was also examined and removed to a military installation.

Two men, both in their 50's, have been arrested for questioning and are currently being held at Balbriggan and Drogheda Garda Stations.
