Gardai have launched an investigation, saying the death is suspicious.

Gardaí were called to the scene at Loretto Park, in the leafy area of Rathfarnham in south Dublin, at about 9.50am this morning.

They were alerted by members of the Dublin Fire Brigade who discovered the body of a woman in her fifties and whose identity remains a mystery at this stage.

Investigating officers have requested the services of the State Pathologist's office and a post mortem examination is being carried out at Tallaght hospital.
