Russia is trying to deflect attention from its failed war in Chechnya by turning its military might against Georgia, Georgia’s foreign minister said.

Irakli Menagarishvili denied Russian claims that Georgia was harbouring terrorists that launch attacks in Russia’s Chechnya republic.

He said that attacks by Russian jets and helicopters have acquired a “permanent character”.

Russia has denied that it has launched air strikes against the Pankisi Gorge in Georgia across from the Chechen border, but Mr Menagarishvili said Georgia has “documentary proof” and called Moscow’s denial “cynical”.
