Sinn Féin has accused the Taoiseach Enda Kenny of running scared from a debate with its party leader Gerry Adams.

Sinn Féin has accused the Taoiseach Enda Kenny of running scared from a debate with its party leader Gerry Adams.

Mr Kenny said today that he would not take part in a head-to-head debate with Mr Adams on TV3.

The Taoiseach said he does not participate in programmes presented by Vincent Browne.

However, Sinn Féin's Pearse Doherty has said the Taoiseach is running scared.

Mr Doherty said: "I think it is disappointing that the Taoiseach is running scared from a debate with Sinn Féin on this issue and I would say to the Taoiseach directly that he has to put aside his petty differences with TV3, or any presenter, and debate the contents of this treaty.

"If he really believes in the austerity measures that are contained in this treaty, then he has a duty and responsibility as Taoiseach of this state to debate with the leader of the 'No' campagn, Gerry Adams."
