Obesity and the benefits of physical exercise are among a range of issues due to be discussed at a conference on sports medicine in Dublin today and tomorrow.
Irish and international experts are due to address the meeting, which takes place at the Royal College of Surgeons in Ireland.
Obesity has become a major public concern in Ireland, with recent statistics showing half the Irish population is overweight and one in eight is obese.
Other issues due to be discussed at the sports medicine conference include doping in the wake of the Athens Olympics and the sudden death of young sporting stars like GAA player Cormac McAnallen.
