PSNI under pressure to identify Belfast bank raid suspects

Police in the North are under increasing pressure from unionists to state who they believe was responsible for last month's £22m (€31.3m) bank heist in Belfast.

Police in the North are under increasing pressure from unionists to state who they believe was responsible for last month's £22m (€31.3m) bank heist in Belfast.

The PSNI revealed details yesterday of the lengths to which they are going to find those responsible for the daring raid at Northern Bank headquarters, but they did not say who they suspected of carrying out the theft.

The police have already searched homes and other premises in republican areas of Belfast as part of their investigation, but they have recovered nothing connected to the robbery.

The IRA has denied any involvement, but if the PSNI identified republicans as the prime suspects, it could have serious consequences for efforts to restore power-sharing government in the North.
