Andrew Johnson threw Everton a lifeline in their UEFA Cup tie with Fiorentina with the breakthrough in the 16th minute at Goodison Park.

Goalkeeper Sebastien Frey struggled to clear a cross from Steven Pienaar and Johnson bundled in with his shoulder from close range.

With only one goal now separating the teams in the tie, Everton maintained the momentum going into the second half.
