Reports on peace process 'overly optimistic'
The British Prime Minister's office in Downing Street has issued a statement saying some reports on progress in resolving the crisis in the peace process are overly optimistic.
Meanwhile, at Stormont today, the new Northern Secretary, John Reid, has been meeting the main political parties for the first time.
The Ulster Unionist leader, David Trimble, said at the weekend that he believed the IRA was about to move towards decommissioning its weapons.
However, the Sinn Fein president, Gerry Adams, has already poured cold water on the report and now Tony Blair's spokesman has also said no deal is imminent yet on decommissioning, demilitarisation and policing.
John Hume, the SDLP leader said, after meeting John Reid, that his party's concerns over policing had yet to be resolved.
