The country's largest trade union is condemning a decision to force hotel staff to pay tax on service charges.
Until now hotel workers were not obliged to pay VAT on money they earned through service charges.
The Revenue Commissioners is now insisting that the tax is paid from the beginning of next month.
SIPTU is hitting out at the decision, saying hotel workers are among the lowest paid in the country and they cannot be asked to sacrifice more of their wages.
It is appealing to the Revenue Commissioners to find an alternative way of dealing with the problem.
