A warehouse used by the Irish aid agency, Goal, has been damaged by gunfire in Northern Afghanistan.

The agency uses the warehouse to store stocks of humanitarian aid.

Officials from the agency say that the level of security in the area has grown steadily worse, despite the efforts by peacekeeping troops to remove any civilians carrying weapons.

The area surrounding the warehouse is believed to be a fiercely contested region between rival ethnic factions.
