Govt to introduce new disciplinary rules for prisoners

Minister for Justice Brian Lenihan has signed an order introducing new disciplinary procedures for prisoners in Irish jails.

Minister for Justice Brian Lenihan has signed an order introducing new disciplinary procedures for prisoners in Irish jails.

The new provisions will come into force on October 1.

Mr Lenihan says they will promote better discipline among prisoners and will also give inmates a right to seek redress if they feel they have been unfairly treated.
