The Great Britain and Northern Ireland team for the World Cross Country Championships in Dublin has been named following the British Inter-Counties Championships in Nottingham on Saturday.

Reigning world cross country champion Paula Radcliffe, who was pre-selected, is joined in the senior women’s 8km race by the athletes who finished first, third and fourth on Saturday, Liz Yelling, Jenny Brown and Angela Mudge.

Helen Pattinson, who finished in an automatic qualifying spot in second, has opted to seek selection for the 4km race in Dublin in March.

Kathy Butler and Hayley Yelling, who missed the trial, are the other two members of the team.

The places in the senior men’s 12km team go to the athletes who finished in the top five places and seventh in Saturday’s race.

Chris Thompson who finished sixth has, like Pattinson, opted to seek selection for the 4km race.

The junior men’s team will be led by European cross country silver medallist Mohamed Farah after his victory on Saturday.

John Mayock has been pre-selected for the 4km race in advance of the World Short Course trial, which takes place at the Celtic Manor Resort in Newport on March 3.

Mayock is also seeking selection for the European Indoor Championships, which take place the same weekend as the short course trial.
