Richard Keogh was gunned down in Benalmadena, near Torremolinos on Saturday night, fuelling fears that Dublin’s bloody drug turf war had escalated.

It is understood gardaí suspected the 30-year-old was involved with drug trafficking and possibly with some of the country’s major dealers.

Mr Keogh, a father of four from Cabra, moved to Spain with his family after a failed attempt on his life at his Co Meath home in November 2007.

A garda liaison officer in Spain is providing the local police force with any information they need that could assist with the murder investigation.

The latest gun attack in Spain reveals the growing links between the capital’s criminal fraternity and the south of the country.

Dubliners Patrick Doyle, Shane Coates and Stephen Sugg were previously murdered in the region.

In recent weeks Dublin has been also hit with a deadly upsurge in gangland feuds which has seen four men shot dead and four others seriously injured in gun attacks.
