Old Trafford return could be key for Robson

West Brom manager Bryan Robson knows he faces a potentially make-or-break return to an old haunt this Saturday.

Robson takes on former club Manchester United at Old Trafford, scene of many a heroic campaign for the man once dubbed ‘Captain Marvel’ by the Reds faithful during his 13-year service between 1981 and 1994.

But the Theatre of Dreams could serve as an amphitheatre to Robson’s worst nightmare – relegation from the Barclays Premiership.

With Southampton at Crystal Palace, Robson knows a victory for either of those sides at Selhurst Park, in tandem with a defeat for the Baggies against United in a 5.15pm kick off will see Albion back in the Coca-Cola Championship.

The scenario is that simple, and not lost on Robson as he said: “Yes, that would put us down, but one of those teams has to win.

“If the result goes for us then we could go into that game with the momentum of knowing that even a draw at Manchester United would be good.”
