Households affected by last week's floods in Cork, Waterford, Wexford and Tipperary may get state compensation of €10,000 each, according to reports this morning.

The reports said Junior Minister Tom Parlon had asked the Cabinet to approve a compensation package that would be in line with previous schemes introduced in the wake of recent floods in Dublin and landslides in Co Mayo.

The victims in those cases reportedly received an average of €10,000 each.

This morning's reports said a similar pay-out for the victims of last week's floods would cost €3.5m.
