Cork City all but booked their place in the second round of the UEFA Intertoto Cup with a terrific performance to outplay Valur in Laugardalsvvllur, Reykjavik.

Cork started positively and got the perfect reward with the lead goal after just five minutes when experienced midfielder Colin O'Brien fired home.

Cork weathered some Valur pressure to kill off the Icelanders with a second goal on 66 minutes when winger Liam Kearney shot home.

Cork are now odds on favourites to finish the job in the second leg at Turner's Cross next Saturday.
