Paramedic tells murder trial accused told him she drove her car into the sea

A paramedic has told the jury in a Wicklow murder trial that the accused told him she drove her car into the sea at South Quay in Arklow.

Marta Herda of Pairc na Saile, Emoclew Road in Arklow denies deliberately entering the water to drown her colleague in March 2013.

Marta Herda’s car crashed through two steel barriers before it plunged into the sea at South Quay in Arklow at around 6am on March 26, 2013.

The 29-year-old swam to safety, while the body of Csaba Orsas, who was a front seat passenger, washed up on a nearby beach a few hours later.

Paul Quinn was one of two paramedics called to the scene. He said she was very distressed and kept mentioning the name Csaba on the way to hospital.

He asked her if Csaba tried to rape her, to which she replied: “he shouldn’t have been there. I drove the car into the water.”

A short time beforehand, a woman who lives near South Quay said she went outside after hearing a woman screaming 'RAPE'.

She said she met a very upset woman whose hair and clothes were soaking wet.
