Government announces anti-poverty scheme

A series of co-ordinators have been appointed to head anti-poverty drives in 25 designated areas around the country.

A series of co-ordinators have been appointed to head anti-poverty drives in 25 designated areas around the country.

Fourteen parts of Dublin as well as districts in Cork, Limerick, Waterford, Louth and Wicklow are to be targeted in the programme.

The areas involved will be revived through planning, investment and development projects under the national development plan.

Up to £15bn has been earmarked for the project, which will involve the newly appointed co-ordinators working with local implementation teams and the community to draw up a series of action plans.
