Winds are expected to gust to 100 kilometres an hour in the coming days with the combination of high tides and low pressure increasing the possibility of floods.

Of particular concern is Sunday night into Monday.

Dublin city council has put in place a flood contingency plan with cars parks on the seafront at Sandymount and Clontarf to close from Sunday until Monday evening.

A crisis management team at Limerick City Council has decided to deploy sand bags at vulnerable points along the river quays in the Limerick City Centre area.

Local road closures will also be in place.

Householders and businesses in Galway are being advised to put in place flood protection measures.
