SIPTU is calling for an urgent review of safety in the security sector following an armed raid on a cash-in-transit van this morning.

The Securicor van was held up by three men while making a delivery to an ATM on the Ballymun Road in north Dublin.

A shot was fired in the air during the robbery and one of the security staff was hit in the head with the butt of a gun, but his injuries are not thought to be serious.

SIPTU says that, while safety measures have improved in recent times, they still need to be strengthened further in order to fully protect workers.
