Blackburn 0, Derby 1 (full-time)
Malcolm Christie’s goal earned Derby their first away victory in the Premiership this season.
Defeat in a game they had largely dominated highlighted exactly why Blackburn are desperate to sign Andy Cole from Manchester United.
There was more relief for Blackburn with 16 minutes left when Ravanelli just failed to get his head to Carbone’s volley, and the ball fell to Christie who bobbled a shot just wide of the post.
With Dunn brought off the bench, Rovers went all out for goal and when Gillespie’s drive from the right of the area was half-blocked, three Blackburn players just missed the rebound.
Gillespie had a shot well-saved by Mart Poom low by his post, and Poom came to the rescue again to parry Dunn’s fierce shot.
The gaps were opening up though, and Christie found himself in another one-on-one with Friedel, but his shot was blocked by the keeper’s legs.
