Body of fishing tragedy captain discovered

A fourth body has been recovered following a fishing tragedy off county Galway.

A fourth body has been recovered following a fishing tragedy off county Galway.

The body has been confirmed as that of John Dirrane, the skipper of the St Oliver which hit rocks last week.

A local fisherman spotted the body of Mr Dirrane on the seabed around 3pm northwest of Duck Island which is around 15 miles from Slyne Head.

The St Oliver hit rocks in bad weather last Friday with the loss of four crew.

The bodies of three men were recovered at the weekend but the skipper and owner of the vessel John Dirrane was still missing.

Local divers have recovered the body which was brought ashore and confirmed to be that of Mr Dirrane.

The body has been taken to University College Hospital, Galway.
