Monthly awards for Kelly, Slattery

Tipperary hurler Eoin Kelly and Offaly footballer Karol Slattery have picked up the Vodafone GAA All-Stars Player of the Month awards for May.

Tipperary hurler Eoin Kelly and Offaly footballer Karol Slattery have picked up the Vodafone GAA All-Stars Player of the Month awards for May.

The duo were on hand at Dublin's Westbury Hotel today to be presented with their gongs by GAA President Nickey Brennan and Vodafone's Helen Marks.

The 24-year-old Kelly has spearheaded Tipp's run through to the Munster SHC final. He has been in sensational form with his unerring finishing ability marking him out as one of the stars of the 2006 championship.

He scored an incredible 14 points in Tipperary's first round victory over Limerick last month and followed that up last week with 2-09 against Waterford.

Kelly, a centre-forward for the Mullinahone club, was an All-Ireland winner in 2001 with the Premier county and has four All-Star awards to his name.

Offaly skipper Slattery, 26, put in two man-of-the-match displays in his side's Leinster championship wins over Westmeath and Kildare last month.

The Gracefield clubman's displays from wing back have proved inspirational for the Faithful County, who popped up with two points in the 3-09 to 0-15 defeat of the Lilywhites at Croke Park.

Slattery, who has played for Leinster in the Interprovincial series, was voted Offaly footballer of the year in 2001.

Brennan said: "It has been a privilege to watch the performances of Eoin and Karol in the early stages of the championship. They have set a very high standard through their individual displays and their teamwork."
