Orde: Cory inquiries may undermine PSNI

PSNI chief constable Hugh Orde has warned that public inquiries into alleged collusion in four controversial murders could undermine public confidence in his force.

PSNI chief constable Hugh Orde has warned that public inquiries into alleged collusion in four controversial murders could undermine public confidence in his force.

The British government announced yesterday that public inquiries would be established to investigate the murders of Pat Finucane, Rosemary Nelson, Robert Hamill and Billy Wright.

The police and the British army have been accused of involvement in all four killings.

Mr Orde said today that the inquiries could damage confidence in the PSNI, even though all the murders happened several years ago.
