A new series of Vatican euro coins sold out quickly today after hundreds of coin enthusiasts lined up before dawn to snap up the highly prized sets.
The Vatican moved the sale to the Rome basilica St Paul’s - outside the walls - after the sale a year ago led to scuffles at the edge of St Peter’s Square by a crowd of more than 1,000 people.
The eight coins bearing the pope’s profile sold out in three hours.
Vatican coins have been prized since the Vatican joined the European currency.
