The Irish National Stud and Gardens, Kildare, in association with ISNA, holds its first plant fair on Saturday, August 10, from 11am to 4pm. Admission €5, which will allow reduced entry into the Japanese Gardens.

Carlow Garden Festival is continuing with a mix of workshops, garden tours, specialist talks, Q&A sessions, films and long-table lunches in gardens, garden centres and forests located on Carlow’s Garden Trail.

Aaron Bertelsen, vegetable gardener and cook at Great Dixter, visits Shankill Castle on August 1 for a vegetable gardening talk, featuring “plant-mad” Rory Newell of Blarney Castle Gardens as he discusses his recent trips to northern Vietnam in search of rare plants.

Altamont Plant Sales, in the grounds of Altamont Gardens, offers visitors the chance to see both Troy Scott Smith, head gardener at Sissinghurst, and Dan Pearson, internationally renowned landscape and garden designer, on August 2, and gardening icon Monty Don makes a welcome return at a much-anticipated talk at Arboretum Home and Garden Heaven on Saturday, August 3.

CountryLife Garden Centre network is donating free flowering perennials and wildflower seeds to 24 Tidy Towns and communities to help protect bee species at risk of extinction. The leading farm and rural retailer, owned by Glanbia Ireland, is also giving free wildflower seeds to customers at its network of 14 award-winning CountryLife garden centres across Leinster and Munster and is highlighting in-store which plants are particularly pollinatorfriendly.

CountryLife’s in-store horticulturalists are promoting natural pest-control methods and providing free information for customers to help them to reduce or eliminate their use of herbicides. Pollinating plants are available in all CountryLife garden Ccntres or visit countrylife.ie for more information.

John and Eithne Howard are holding an open garden and plant sale at Cutting, Seamount, Currabinny, P43 CP02 (between Novartis and GSK), on Saturday and Sunday, August 3 and 4, 12pm-4pm (weather permitting) in aid of Cystic Fibrosis, Southern Branch. Teas/coffees. All proceeds to the Cystic Fibrosis charity. Enquiries to 086-075 9704.
