Aer Rianta has announced plans to provide airlines with extra routes out of Shannon Airport in Co Clare.
The announcement ends months of speculation about the issue due to uncertainty surrounding the future ownership of the airport.
Last week, Aer Rianta rejected a request from Ryanair for extra routes out of Shannon, but said it has now received permission to allow extra transatlantic flights and flights to Britain.
Martin Moroney, the director of Aer Rianta at Shannon, said negotiations were ongoing with three airlines about the possibility of new routes.
He also said the provision of these routes should also lead to the resumption of Aer Lingus flights from Shannon to Washington.
