Government wants public inquiry into Finucane case

The Tanaiste, Mary Harney, has told the Dail that the Government wants a public inquiry into allegations of British collusion in the murder of Belfast solicitor Pat Finucane.

The Tanaiste, Mary Harney, has told the Dail that the Government wants a public inquiry into allegations of British collusion in the murder of Belfast solicitor Pat Finucane.

She said the Government believes a case exists for a public inquiry.

Her comments follow a BBC documentary last night which revealed that the RUC instigated the murder and that the British army provided targeting information.
