There was a 9% increase in the number of planning applications An Bord Pleanála received last year.

More than 1,900 submissions were made to the board.

However, that figure is still way off the 6,600 lodged in 2007.

The average case took 17 weeks to deal with - three weeks faster than planning applications were completed in 2014.
