The HSE is urging people not to panic after the World Health Organisation's decision to declare the current swine flu outbreak as a global pandemic.

The UN agency raised its pandemic alert to its highest level yesterday as the virus is now spreading freely in two continents - North America and Australia.

The Department of Health says there is no increased risk to Irish people, while the HSE says it has plans in place to deal with a potential upsurge of infections in Ireland.
