Fine Gael MEP Colm Burke today called for a second referendum on the Lisbon Treaty.
Mr Burke said the vote should be held in October of next year and should allow for a three-part vote.
One part would be on the Treaty itself, another would be on opting in or out of the EU Charter of Fundamental Rights and another would ask us to vote on opting in or out of the European Security and Defence Policy.
“We are now in a precarious position where our Government remains lost; ignorant on a way forward after June’s referendum result,” said the Ireland South MEP at a press conference today.
“My proposition today provides a clear path forward to resolve the current impasse.
