An armed raider has escaped with an undisclosed sum of money after holding up a security van in Cork this morning.

The raider approached the van while it was delivering cash to the Douglas shopping centre at around 11am.

He then pointed a gun at the delivery man, forcing him to hand over what gardaí say was a substantial sum of money.

No shots were fired during the incident and nobody was injured.

The raider, who escaped on foot in the direction of Rochestown Avenue, was around 5'2" in height, wearing a baseball cap and jacket and carrying a blue rucksack.

Gardaí are appealing for anyone who may have seen him to come forward with whatever information they may have.
