Dublin nightclubs to appeal curtailment of opening hours

A number of Dublin theatres and nightclubs are reportedly planning to appeal last week’s court ruling forcing them to stop selling alcohol at 3am.

A number of Dublin theatres and nightclubs are reportedly planning to appeal last week’s court ruling forcing them to stop selling alcohol at 3am.

The venues were also ordered to stop all entertainment and dancing on their premises at 2.30am. Previously, many clubs operating under theatre licenses were allowed to remain open until 4am.

Last week’s ruling was issued after gardaí complained about ongoing public order offences related to the consumption of alcohol.

Reports this morning said four of the affected venues, the Gaiety, the Ambassador, the Olympia and Spirit, were planning to lodge an appeal within the next two weeks as the ruling could threaten the viability of their businesses.
