Pro-Life campaigners stage protest

Dozens of Pro-Life campaigners have staged a protest outside Leinster House in Dublin over the draft legislation on abortion.

People who took part in the demonstration said that they are opposed to the granting of a termination in cases where a mother is suicidal.

They are also accusing the government of ignoring all of the expert psychiatric evidence presented at the recent Oireachtas hearings.

"For the first time obstetricians in our hospitals will be faced with situations where a physically healthy woman who is carrying a physically healthy foetus will present to them," said Legal Consultant to the Pro-Life Campaign Caroline Simons.

"And they asked to terminate those pregnancies they've never been asked to do that in Ireland before and they're being asked to do that now against all the best medical information."
