Gardaí in Dublin have arrested two men following an attempted armed robbery at a post office in Howth this morning.

Gardaí in Dublin have arrested two men following an attempted armed robbery at a post office in Howth this morning.

Two raiders entered the Bayside Post Office in the town just before 9.30am armed with a handgun and a knife.

They threatened members of staff and also fired a shot, but nobody was injured.

The pair eventually fled empty-handed on a motorbike with gardaí in pursuit.

A short time later, two men in their 20s were arrested at Bayside railway station and a handgun was recovered.
