A report commissioned by the Migrant Rights Centre has severely criticised Ireland’s work permit system.

A report commissioned by the Migrant Rights Centre has severely criticised Ireland’s work permit system.

The report, compiled by human rights commissioner, Nuala Kelly, described the system as irrational, uneconomic and inefficient.

It also said the system closely resembled bonded labour as work permits were issued to employers, thereby preventing workers from seeking alternative jobs.
