The Homeless Agency is hoping the number of homeless people will decrease over the Christmas period.

The agency has put a winter weather strategy in place as a result of the increase in numbers sleeping rough during September.

Director of the Agency, Derval Howley said the numbers living rough often goes down over Christmas, but they can find themselves back on the streets in the New Year.

“People tend when they still have contact with families to return home over Christmas,” she said.

“Some continue to live at home after that. Others than in January might find relationships have broken down again and they'd go back to homeless services.”
