A newborn baby girl has been found abandoned outside the gates of a football

A newborn baby girl has been found abandoned outside the gates of a football

club in Co Antrim overnight.

The baby was wrapped in a white blanket and towel outside the GAA grounds in Woodside road, Ballymena.

She was discovered shortly before midnight after a woman telephoned a local taxi service.

The baby was taken to hospital in Antrim and police have appealed for its mother to come forward.

It is reported that the child is healthy and doing well in hospital.
