It has been an historic day in Co Donegal, where, for the first time ever, Sinn Féin has surpassed Fianna Fáil as the dominant party in the county.
In Donegal South West, Sinn Féin's Pearse Doherty topped the poll, with more than 14,000 first preference votes.
He said that never "in (his) wildest dreams" did he think the day of "real change" would dawn, and that the party is thrilled with its performance in Donegal South West.
