Ulster Unionist member, Reg Empey says that he does not intend to challenge David Trimble’s leadership of the party.

In a statement that has been issued this evening, Mr Empey said that the speculation that he was going to mount a leadership challenge was completely unfounded and that the last thing the party needed now was a leadership challenge.

He says that the objective for all Unionists now is to maximise the pressure on Sinn Fein and the IRA to bring about disarmament.
