The Mid-Western Health Board is set to confirm plans to lay off 65 workers as part of cutbacks ordered by the Department of Health.
The confirmation will come at a meeting of the board tomorrow.
The agenda for the meeting says the lay-offs are a result of a €850,000 reduction in funding from the Government.
Thirty-three of the jobs cuts will be among management and administrative staff, with medical, dental, nursing and paramedical jobs making up the rest.
The Labour Party’s Jan O’Sullivan has described the move as the latest in a string of broken Government promises.
“As far as I’m concerned, it’s a total con on the Irish people,” she said.
“It’s a blatant lie as I see it because [the Government] said there wouldn’t be cuts and this is an absolute cut.”
