October sees 10.2% y-o-y increase in number of private cars licensed

There were 2,442 new private cars licensed in October 2012, compared with 2,216 in October 2011, an increase of 10.2%, official figures have revealed today.

A Central Statistics Office report has found that the number of new goods vehicles licensed in October 2012 was 670 compared with 645 in the corresponding month last year - an increase of 3.9%.

In October 2012, the total number of all vehicles licensed was 7,784 compared with 7,678 in the corresponding month last year - an increase of 1.4%.

The total number of all new vehicles licensed during October 2012 was 3,563 compared with 3,236 during the same month in 2011 - an increase of 10.1%.

In October, of the 2,442 new private cars licensed, 478 (19.6%) were petrol and 1,910 (78.2%) were diesel.

The highest number of new private cars licensed in October 2012, classified by make, was Volkswagen (361) followed by Ford (236), Skoda (200) and Hyundai (185).

The licensing figures refer to vehicles taxed for road use only and classified by taxation class.
